Our Unforgettable Trip to Shey Phoksundo, Dolpa

We, a group of 12 students from Mahendra Multiple Campus, Nepalgunj – including seniors and juniors – went on an exciting tour to Shey Phoksundo, Dolpa. It was one of the most memorable trips of our lives.

Day 1: The Journey Begins

We started our journey at 7 AM from Nepalgunj on a reserved bus. Our route took us through Kohalpur, Chhinchu, and Salyan. Around 12 PM, we stopped in Salyan for lunch. Then we moved forward and reached Jajarkot, where we had some snacks. By 7 PM, we arrived at a place called Tallu in Jajarkot. We had dinner and stayed there for the night.

Day 2: Reaching Dolpa and Starting the Trek

The next morning, we left at 5 AM on the same bus. After entering Dolpa, we had breakfast at a small place. Around 12 PM, we reached Suligad, the starting point of our trek. Our bus dropped us there and went ahead to Dunai.

At Suligad, we paid a Rs. 100 entry fee for Shey Phoksundo National Park. Unfortunately, drones were not allowed. Then, we began our trek through the beautiful mountain trails. The views were breathtaking. We took several breaks, had tea and snacks on the way, and finally reached Chhepka at 7 PM. We were very tired, had dinner, and went straight to bed.

Day 3: Trekking to Rigmo Village

After breakfast, we continued our trek from Chhepka. The higher we went, the more beautiful the views became – but the trek also got harder. We had lunch at Renchi around 12 PM, then moved ahead. We passed Jharana Hotel and saw stunning waterfalls. The trail was very steep and challenging.

By 7 PM, we reached Rigmo Village, where some of our friends arrived earlier. We were extremely tired. A few of us went straight to rest. After dinner, everyone went to sleep.

Day 4: The Beauty of Shey Phoksundo

The next morning, we woke up to see the beautiful Shey Phoksundo Lake right in front of us. The view was magical! After breakfast, we explored the area. We visited one of the oldest gumbas and a small museum.

Later, my friend Nabin and I went further to the exact location where the famous Nepali film Himalaya – Caravan (Nepal’s first Oscar-nominated movie) was filmed. It was a proud and exciting moment. After that, we returned, had lunch, and started our return trek.

Day 5: Returning to Chhepka

We trekked back to Chhepka and stayed there for the night. After dinner, we rested.

Day 6: Unique Taste and the Way Back

After breakfast, we started walking back. On the way, we stopped at a small tea point where we bought Yarsagumba and even tasted it for the first time! We also had some fresh curd. Around 2 PM, we reached the checkpoint where we had entered the park. After lunch, we went back to Suligad, where our bus was waiting.

From there, we drove to Jajarkot again, had dinner, and stayed overnight.

Day 7: Back to Nepalgunj

We left Jajarkot early at 6 AM. On the way back to Nepalgunj, we had lunch and later stopped at Babai, where we enjoyed cold lassi because of the heat. Finally, around 3 PM, we reached Nepalgunj.

The trip was full of adventure, beautiful scenery, tired legs, and amazing memories. From long bus rides to tough treks and peaceful lakes – this journey to Shey Phoksundo will always stay in our hearts.

Our Mahakumbh Journey from Nepalgunj, Nepal

Day 1: Starting the Trip

On Magh 19, we started our journey to Mahakumbh. There were seven of us, all excited for the trip. We left around 10 AM, crossed the border at Rupaidiha, passed through Bahraich, and stopped at Gonda for breakfast. After traveling the whole day, we reached Prayagraj at 8 PM.

One of our friend’s uncles was already there. He guided us over the phone to find a place to stay. Since rooms were full, locals were renting out their houses. We stayed in one of those houses, paying 1,000 INR per person, including breakfast and lunch.

For dinner, we walked a little to a restaurant called Krishna Bhog. The food was very tasty! After dinner, we went back to our stay and rested for the next day.

Day 2: Exploring the Kumbh Mela

In the morning, we had a big breakfast and started walking towards the Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers meet. We walked about 10 kilometers, enjoying the crowd, talking, and having fun along the way.

We planned to do snaan (holy bath) on Vasant Panchami, but when we reached there, we found out that Vasant Panchami had already started. We also learned that we wouldn’t be able to do snaan the next day because it was reserved for the Aghori Babas. So, we decided to do snaan that same day.

After the snaan, we visited the Akhadas (monk camps) and walked around the Kumbh Mela. We met many sadhus and babas and even met Umesh Guru from Nepalgunj. He invited us to stay at his ashram, where we spent the night and had simple, delicious food.

Day 3: Heading Back Home

The next morning, before our friends woke up, one brother and I went to the ghat (riverbank), but it was closed. So, we walked around for a while, returned to the ashram, had prasad, and then packed our bags to return to Nepalgunj.

This Mahakumbh trip was a special and unforgettable experience for all of us. The snaan, the huge crowd, and meeting different people made the trip truly amazing. We returned home tired but happy, with memories we’ll never forget.

Also, don’t forget to watch our vlog on YouTube to see our journey!

MAHA KUMBH VLOG - YOUTUBE

I went to Jajarkot from Nepalgunj for a documentary shoot. On January 4, 2024, around 1 p.m., I received a call from Bipin Khadka, whom I already knew. He had obtained my number from Rajbanshi Dai, but it wasn't until he asked for my WhatsApp number that he realized he was speaking to me. After confirming my identity, we finalized the shoot for January 11.

The following day, January 10, began early at 5 a.m. I freshened up, took a bath, and despite the biting cold, prepared for the journey. Leaving home at 6:30 a.m., I reached Karkando by rickshaw for some cash. A call to the Hiace driver, who was driving a public vehicle, confirmed he would arrive in a few minutes. By 7:10 a.m., I was on Karkando, and the Hiace promptly arrived. Seated by the window, I marveled at the scenic views of Nepalgunj, Kohalpur, Babai, and Surkhet. Lunch at a place called Baluwasangrahi at 1 p.m. followed breakfast at a place called Chhinchhu.

By 5 p.m., I had reached Jajarkot district, though my destination was a bit further. I loved the view and was thrilled by the road of hills. Finally, at 6-7 p.m. i bought recharge card after , I reached Bipin Khadka Sir's house. After greetings, he showed me a room, and I stayed in his house. I put my bag, freshened up, and had a good talk with a bonfire. There were Bipin Sir, his wife, and a humble guy from that place. We had a good talk, planned for tomorrow, had dinner, and I went to sleep; I was tired from the travel

The next day, I woke up at 6 a.m., freshened up, had tea with Bipin Khadka Sir, and packed my drone for a shoot. Bipin Sir prepared his camera accessories, and we went to the nearest ward office for the shoot. We waited for the ward president, had the shoot at the nearest school, and had lunch at the nearest hotel. It was a small hotel run by a young and humble guy. The village was a typical village of Nepal on a hill with a beautiful view. After having lunch, we went to another place called Pokhara in Jajarkot on a bike. I was riding the bike, and we went to different places of that ward and did the shoot. It was a documentary by the ward. We roamed different parts of that ward and had the shoot. It was a sunny day in Jajarkot; it had been a while since I saw the sun in Nepalgunj. The weather of Jajarkot was good, sunny during the day and cold in the morning and evening. We ended the shoot at around 5-6 p.m. and went to the orange farming place. This orange farming was by the humble guy I met first at Nabin Khadka Sir's house. We shot there and had fresh orange. I grabbed an orange by my hand; it was my new experience; I had never had an orange directly from a tree before. I had a new experience that day, and I got a nettle sting during the shoot. It was a great and one of the memorable days of my life. After the fresh orange, we went to Bipin Sir's house, got fresh, and had dinner at 7:30 p.m. After that, we had a bonfire with the locals of that place, had a great talk. I showed them my drone shots, and then I went to the room for sleep.

The next day, I woke up at 6 a.m., had tea, and this day we were returning to Nepalgunj. Bipin Sir and I were also returning to Nepalgunj; he had plans of returning to Kathmandu the next day. I got freshened up and packed my bag. Bipin Sir called the driver, and we waited a bit long; after an hour, the Hiace arrived. We sat in the Hiace, and we were returning to Nepalgunj after a successful shoot. We reached Baluwasangrahi, the place where I had lunch when I was coming. We had lunch, and after lunch, the journey to Nepalgunj continued. After a few hours, we picked up Bipin Sir's son. Bipin Sir's probably 10-12 years old son was at his maternal uncle's house, and he was also going to Kathmandu with Bipin Sir the next day. We reached a place called Chhinchu; it was such a sunny day, and I was happy seeing the sun on cold days. After a few hours, we reached Deurali; it was a border of Terai and hills. After Deurali, the environment became cold, with no sun; the sun was covered up by mist. We reached Nepalgunj around 5-6 p.m. I went to my home and had rest. Finally, the journey was ended.

It was such a good project. I loved projects that include travel. Travel and meeting new people give us much knowledge. Had new experiences, had good times, visited new places. The best part of my freelance work was I travel and get paid as well. It was a good trip, Jajarkot trip for a shoot.

Exploring the Serene Beauty of Satkhalauwa Taal: A Day Trip Adventure

Have you ever craved a peaceful getaway, far from the hustle and bustle of city life? Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Satkhalauwa Taal, a picturesque lake nestled deep within the jungles of Bardiya, Nepal. Joined by my adventurous friends Shekhar, Ayush, and Rajat, we embarked on a memorable journey on the auspicious day of Teej.

Our adventure began in Nepalgunj, a bustling city in the southwestern region of Nepal. Equipped with our trusty bikes and a sense of excitement, we set off on our day trip at precisely 12 pm. Before heading into the wilderness, we made a quick stop in Basgadhi, where we indulged in the mouthwatering delight of momos, a local delicacy that left our taste buds craving for more.

With our bellies full and spirits high, we resumed our journey toward the enchanting Satkhalauwa Taal. After approximately 40 minutes of riding through scenic roads, we reached our destination. As we entered the premises, we were required to pay a small entry charge, which we gladly obliged, knowing that it contributes to the upkeep and conservation of the area.

As we approached the lake, our eyes were met with a breathtaking sight. Surrounded by lush greenery and towering trees, Satkhalauwa Taal exuded tranquility and serenity. The crystal-clear water shimmered under the warm rays of the sun, inviting us to dive into its refreshing embrace. We couldn't resist the allure and immediately decided to rent a boat and explore the lake's pristine waters.

Rowing gently across the lake, we felt a sense of unity with nature. The chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves provided the soundtrack to our adventure, while the cool breeze carried away all our worries and stress. We relished the joy of being present at the moment, taking in the beauty that surrounded us.

After hours of basking in the serenity of Satkhalauwa Taal, it was time to bid farewell to this slice of paradise and head back to Nepalgunj. As we journeyed home, the sun began to set, casting a warm golden glow on the landscape. Although we were sad to leave, the memories we had made were etched in our hearts forever.

Upon our return to Nepalgunj, we decided to extend our day trip a little longer by indulging in some more relaxation. We found ourselves at the Starlight Hotel, where we had the opportunity to unwind and rejuvenate in the hotel's swimming pool. The cool water and the twinkling stars above provided the perfect ambiance to end our adventure-filled day.

Feeling refreshed and invigorated, we bid each other farewell and made our way back home, cherishing the memories we had created during our visit to Satkhalauwa Taal. The journey reminded us of the immense beauty that nature has to offer and the importance of taking time to connect with it.

If you're seeking a tranquil escape amidst nature's splendor, Satkhalauwa Taal is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. With its captivating beauty and serene ambiance, this lake in the heart of the Bardiya jungle is sure to leave an everlasting impression on anyone fortunate enough to visit. So, pack your bags, embark on an adventure, and immerse yourself in the wonders of Satkhalauwa Taal – an experience you won't soon forget.

I recently visited Baharaich, India for work. I have been doing photography for the last two years. I've visited different places in Nepal for photography work. It was my first time going to India for a photograph. It was Dec. 17 I and my two friends went to Bacharach India.

It was 11 AM. I just came home from campus. I got a call from a friend to get ready and came to Tribhuvan Chowk. We picked up our bag with a camera and cleaned my friend's car. We started our journey from Tribhuvan Chowk to Bacharach. My friend Prajwal was riding in a car. My and brother Ramesh were sitting in a car.

We left here at 1 o'clock and reached Bahraich at 4 o'clock. We reached there and did our work and by the time we finished, it was 10 p.m. We had that dinner. There were three of us when we left and six of us when we returned, three more friends coming to Nepal were added with us. We knew that the border would close at 9 o'clock, but we left for Nepalgunj at 10 o'clock. There were 6 of us in the car, the winter season was starting, there was fog on the road, we were coming slowly, it was getting foggier at night, it was difficult to drive the car, when the car was at speed, the fog like clouds came in the middle of the road, it felt like we were in the sky. Listening to DIVINE's song and gossiping in the car, we reached Rupaidiha. By the time we reached Rupaidiha, it was already noon, the border was closed because the vehicle had an Indian number plate, it would be closed at 9 p.m. and we could not clear the customs. That's why we decided to park the car at Rupaidiha. We could not come to Nepal because the border was closed. We first talked to the Indian police, we told the Indian police that we were late due to work and we showed our identity cards and the police told us that we cannot go through the main border because the main border is closed and there are cameras on the border and they told us to go from another side and not walk at night from now on. we parked the car at Rupaidiha and 6 of us crossed the border by walking on the side road.

It was almost 1 o'clock in the night and we crossed the border by walking. I felt very safe when I came to my country. Now that we had come to Nepal, we thought that the Nepalese police will interrogate us, but we have come ahead of the police station. We have already crossed the border and now we had to go to Tribhuvan Chowk. Tribhuvan Chowk was about 6 kilometers away from the border. There was no chance of getting any vehicle at 1 o'clock in the night. 6 of us were ready to walk.
Meanwhile, a rickshaw was coming towards us from the front and we asked them to stop the rickshaw and let us go to Tribhuvan Chowk. We were me and 5 other friends. 5 of my companions were Madhesi. The rickshaw driver we stopped was also a Madhesi. My friends spoke in the Madhesi language and persuaded the rikshaw driver to go to Tribhuvan Chowk at 500. The rickshaw driver was saying in Madhesi language that he was ready in 500 only because he is Madhesi. He was saying that if there were non-Madhesi in our place, he would have not taken less than 1000 and he was laughing saying what they would have given. We boarded a rickshaw and our journey to Tribhuvan Chowk began.

The rickshaw driver told us that the police will stop by when we go from the main road. he took us from another route. That road was very lonely and dark. There were no lights on anywhere and it was foggy. In the meantime, we saw about 15 rickshaws coming towards us from the front and the rickshaw we were riding in stopped suddenly, many things started playing in our minds. We had about 5.6 lakh belongings in our bags like cameras, laptops, and other items. They were trying to rob somewhere, but we were six young men and we were ready to fight. The rickshaw in which we were riding stopped and the rickshaw man got down and took out a long thick rod from the rickshaw and gave us by saying keep it for safety, we were all silent and were ready to fight if anything happened. He started driving a rickshaw.

The rickshaw we were driving was going ahead and about 15 rickshaws were coming towards us from the front. There was a doubt that something would happen in the mind. We were holding the rod in our hands. Rickshaws were coming towards us from the front. Along with the rickshaw, there was also a motorcycle. The rickshaws came near and a rickshaw driver coming from the front said to our rickshaw puller dai "Kya halaal bhaiya" and our rickshaw driver asked "Sab theek, kaha saman carrying karey?" The rickshaw driver said "Ha bhaiya" and we Moved forward, 15 rickshaws and a motorcycle passed by the side of the rickshaw we were riding. We were moving forward on a deserted road, and an old man was sitting with a tent, the rickshaw stopped and the rickshaw man said to the old man that he wanted a blanket. and he was trying to give him a blanket, but the old man refused to take it. It was surprising to see an old man sitting alone in a tent on this cold and dark night. We moved forward. We asked the rickshaw driver who they were and he told us that the 15 Rickshaws we saw were rickshaws that smuggled food products from India by evading customs. The rickshaw driver said that the motorcycle seen with the rickshaw belonged to the police. Rikshawdriver said that the old man sitting in a tent we saw was a reporter who informs us about who has come and gone on the road. While we were talking, we crossed a village and came out to Chaulika Chowk. A man was sitting in Chowk too, looking at him it seemed that he was not afraid of anyone. He was sitting alone in the middle of the road on a lonely night. The Rikshaw driver said that that man is also a reporter. Go your way without us saying anything.

At 1, 2 o'clock in the night, we came to know that the goods were being smuggled illegally by evading customs. According to the rickshaw puller, the Deputy Mayor of Nepalgunj, Kamruddin Rai, is the one who does all that work. Dai said that all the goods coming in the rickshaw will come to the godown of Kamrudin Rai and all the goods will be supplied to the Triveni line in Nepalganj when all this is done, the police, SP, and all the small and big police will get the commission. How much truth was in this thing, how much was a lie, no one knows. but it was surprising to see that illegal work was done even from the border of Nepalgunj & to hear the name of the people's representative that we voted for has been involved. Due to unemployment in Nepal, rickshaw drivers are involved in illegal. Our rickshaw driver said that a rickshaw driver earns Rs 300 to Rs 500 per trip and one person earns Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000 a night.

While talking, we reached Tribhuvan Chowk. As we reached our destination, I felt as if I had stepped out of a dream. It was 2 o'clock when we reached Tribhuvan Chowk. We gave 500 to the rickshaw driver and everyone went home. I and my friend Prajwal went to his house and slept.
